Santa Ana, CA -- Theatre Out, Orange County's gay and lesbian theatre, will present THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED as its next production, with performances starting August 28 and continues through September 19. The play, written by Douglas Carter Beane, is a hilarious comedy that examines the faults and foibles of Hollywood, as one agent struggles with keeping her client in the closet so that he can play a gay man in his next film. A young heartthrob of the silver screen, Mitchell Green's star is definitely rising. But in Hollywood, fame is fleeting and it can all come crashing down—especially if Mitchell's agent fails to keep him away from the rent boy the young star is falling in love with.

THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED was originally produced off-Broadway at the Second Stage Theatre in 2006 under the direction of Scott Ellis. Later that year, the play moved to the Cort Theatre on Broadway, where it received a Tony® Award nomination for Best Play. Julie White took home the 2007 Tony® Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her portrayal of Diane, Mitchell's agent. The Broadway cast included Tom Everett Scott, Ari Graynor, Brian Henderson, Zoe Lister-Jones and Johnny Galecki. In late 2008 Galecki, Henderson, Lister-Jones and White reunited with director Ellis to reprise their roles in the play's Los Angeles debut at the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

The New York Times raves that THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED is "devastatingly funny, with dizzy, irresistible writing that brings down the house." The Star-Ledger calls it, "a laugh-out-loud lampoon of Hollywood humbuggery...Tremendously funny."

This production of Theatre Out's THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED originated as a workshop presentation at the University of California at Irvine (UCI). "We are excited to be producing THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED at Theatre Out," commented Jack Millis, Theatre Out's Artistic Director. "When we saw the amazingly talented actors and director first at UCI, we knew we had to bring it to Theatre Out audiences. The show is full of non-stop laughs."

Theatre Out's production of THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED is directed by Dennis Beasley. The cast features Nicole Erb, David Hudson, Ryan Imhoff and Beth Gardiner, with Alison Plott at select performances.
