Sorry for Laughing is a new solo play written and performed by Evan Zes, presented as part of Westport Country Playhouse's Barnstormer series at the Lucille Lortel White Barn Center. The play centers on Zes and his mother during Covid, when she is discharged from the hospital with a serious heart condition and he transforms his childhood home into a makeshift recovery ward. As the lines between son and caretaker blur, he navigates his 95-year-old father, unpredictable family dynamics, and a household that no longer runs by any predictable logic. Blending sharp humor with raw vulnerability, the work explores the limits of caregiving, the complexity of family, and the ways people endure crisis.
