Westport Community Theatre Hosts Auditions For BAREFOOT IN THE PARK 7/19, 7/20

Westport Community Theatre announces AUDITIONS for Barefoot In The Park by Neil Simon and directed by Scott R. Brill.

Auditions will be held on:
Sunday, July 19 and Monday, July 20 at 7 PM
at the Westport Community Theatre
Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Westport, CT

Barefoot in the Park is the funny and heartwarming romantic comedy about a newlywed couple who have just moved into a 6th floor apartment in New York City. The play has great roles for versatile comic actors.
Performance dates are: September 25 - October 11.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Familiarity with the play is suggested.
All roles are open. Ages for the following roles are character ages:

Corie Bratter (20s): A lovely and lively young newlywed who is filled with hope and optimism for the future and considers herself a doer rather than a watcher. Corie is very emotional, spontaneous, impulsive and "gets such a terrific kick out of living." She is very much in love with Paul. Role requires great physical activity and strong comedic timing.

PAUL BRATTER (20s): Although in his twenties, Paul often can act and think like someone much older. He is a new attorney and while very much in love with Corie has trouble keeping up with her enthusiasm for life. Paul is quick witted, pragmatic, keeps his emotions in check and in Corie's words is a bit of "a stuffed shirt." Role requires great physical activity and strong comedic timing.

ETHEL BANKS (CORIE'S MOTHER) (late 40s - 50s): Corie's Mother is a lovely woman but has not bothered to take care of herself lately. She lives alone in suburban New Jersey, dresses a little dowdy and has a hairdo that is slightly out of style. Although warm and caring, she relies heavily on her "little pink pills" and sleeps "on a board." Role requires physical activity and strong comedic timing.

VICTOR VELASCO (58): Known as "the Bluebeard of 48th Street," Victor is Corie and Paul's adventurous and eccentric upstairs neighbor (he lives in the attic actually) who has a true spirit for living and having fun. Although in "a present state of financial duress," Mr. Velasco is a gourmet cook, bon vivant and world traveler who skis, climbs mountains and has been married three times and just doesn't think about getting tired. Role requires physical activity and strong comedic timing.

HARRY PEPPER (30s - 40s): A telephone repair man who is friendly, slightly sarcastic and ready with a quip. Harry ultimately finds himself in the middle of a fight between Corie and Paul. Role requires strong comedic timing.

DELIVERY MAN (50s - 70): A comic, non-speaking cameo role which may be played by several different actors during the run of the show by audition or invitation.
