The Hartt School Theatre Division presents the popular musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Thursday, March 4 through Sunday, March 7 in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Performances on Thursday through Saturday are at 7:30 PM and on Sunday at 3:00 PM. How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which won seven Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, is a brilliant satire of the world of Big Business as seen through the eyes of J. Pierrepont Finch, a disarming young man looking for an easy way to get to the top. The play takes on nepotism, old-school loyalty, and yes-men in a perfect send-up of the mores and morals of corporate life and the thirst for success. The Hartt School presents an Early Music Program on Sunday, March 7, at 4:00 PM at ST. James Episcopal Church, 1018 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. The Hartt Chamber Choir and Concentus will be joined by Hartt's talented undergraduate and graduate vocalists in a program of early music featuring lute songs by Dowland and Campion; motets by Palestrina, Victoria, Lassus, and Tallis; and choruses and arias by Bach, Handel, and Purcell. Conductors include Edward Bolkovac, Gabriel Lofvall, and Sara Donihe. A $15 donation will be collected at the door. The Hartt School presents the Contemporary Players Ensemble on Wednesday, March 10, at 7:30 PM in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This concert features the music of two American Icons: Aaron Copland and John Adams. The centerpieces of the concert will be the 13-musician version of Appalachian Spring and Adam's Grand Pianola Music for two grand pianos and ensemble. Admission is free. The Hartt School Presents Full Force Dance Theatre, The Hartt School's resident professional modern dance company, on Thursday, March 11, and Friday, March 12, at 7:30 PM and Saturday March 13, at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM at The Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation Theater in the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford. Full Force Dance Theatre's program "Pathless Journey", is an evening of thought provoking and passionate modern dance works by Greater Hartford's leading modern dance company. This performance features works by guest artists Tim Melady, formerly with Hartford Ballet and Momix, and Mary Cochran, formerly with the Paul Taylor Dance Company. The dance concert also features "Pathless Journey" a World premier work by Artistic Director Katie Stevinson-Nollet in collaboration with composer Robert Carl and visual artist Anne Cubberly. This new work and the repertory work "Common Ground," with music by David Macbride, will be performed to live music. The Hartt School presents a Faculty-Student Concert on Tuesday, March 30, at 8:00 PM in Berkman RecitAl Hall, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Piano Professor David Westfall joins award-winning students in a performance of the Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. This monumental masterpiece was written in 1940 when the composer was interned in a German prison camp. Featured students are violinist Sam Martin, clarinetist Dan Liptak, and cellist Sam DaCaprio. In addition, Dr. Robert Carl, Professor of Composition, will offer insights about the composer's life and this work. Admission is free.
