Special Production of Joe Pietro's OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS Opens 8/18 at Town Players

By:

Town Players is pleased to announce a special black box production of OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS by Joe Pietro for two weekends only in August.

OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS first premiered in the Bronx in 1994. It follows the story of Nick, a single young Italian-American man who is the only member of his family who's still geographically close enough to his two sets of grandparents in suburban New Jersey to join them for dinner every Sunday. Although he loves them all dearly, he sometimes finds them very annoying.

When Nick's family hears the news that he may be moving to Seattle for his dream job, they plot and scheme to introduce him to a "nice Catholic girl" - hoping he'll be so besotted that moving away will be out of the question. What happens afterward isn't necessarily what you might expect.

BackStage calls OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS "a hilarious family comedy that is even funnier than [DiPietro's] long-running musical revue I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change."

Directed by Sherry Asch of Brewster, NY, OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS features the talents of Mike O'Mara of Seymour, Elaine Reidy and Mary Wilson of Southbury, Tom Torpey of Stratford, Kate Valiska of Danbury and John Zanowiak of Shelton. The production crew includes producer/stage manager Michele Leigh of Brookfield, lighting director Nick Kaye of Bethel, and booth technician Roberto Perez of Danbury.

OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS runs August 18 - 26. Curtain times are 8 PM Fridays and Saturdays, with a 2 PM matinee on August 20. Tickets are $18 for all performances.

Reservations may be made by visiting www.newtownplayers.org, or by calling the box office at 203-270-9144.

Town Players' Little Theatre is a community theater, currently in its 82nd season, located on 18 Orchard Hill Road, just off Route 25 (a mile north of the Sand Hill Plaza) in Newtown, Conn.
