Infatuation. Seduction. Grandeur. It's all in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin starring diva Anna Netrebko with Mariusz Kwiecien from the Met Live in HD on Saturday, October 5, at 12:55 p.m. at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Britain's premier theatre experience, National Theatre Live in HD, comes to The Playhouse with the award-winning Macbeth on Monday, October 21, at 6:30 p.m. For dinner-and-theater, Bernard's (22 West Lane, Ridgefield) is offering a special $45 prix-fixe menu, or a free glass of wine with dinner, before this event when tickets are presented; reservations suggested; opens at 5 p.m. Visit ridgfieldplayhouse.org for video previews of the Met Live in HD Series. Directed by Fiona Shaw, Eugene Onegin stars Anna Netrebko and Mariusz Kwiecien as the lovestruck Tatiana and the imperious Onegin in Tchaikovsky's fateful romance. Deborah Warner's new production, set in the late 19th century, moves episodically from farmhouse to ballroom, with a powerful snowstorm providing the dramatic setting for the finale. Piotr Beczala is Lenski, Onegin's friend turned rival.

Kenneth Branagh stars in his first Shakespeare performance in more than a decade in Macbeth, and Alex Kingston (Doctor Who,ER) plays Lady Macbeth. This is Shakespeare at its finest. Other NTL events coming up at The Playhouse areThe Habit of Art, Wednesday, November 20; Hamlet, Sunday, November 24; 50 Years on Stage, Sunday, December 1; Coriolanus, Saturday, February 15, 2014, all at 6:30 p.m.
