On Thursday, March 5 at 8 pm, Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts will host the internationally famous National Acrobats of China in a breathtaking display of tumbling, spinning, dancing and death-defying feats. The performers in this remarkable company test the creative boundaries of the human body and the laws of gravity in a dazzling show that includes martial arts, traditional music, acrobatics, illusion and so much more.

The National Acrobats of China, founded in June 1956 in the People's Republic of China, has become one of the most influential major acrobatic troupes in the world. Since the 1980s the group has participated in national and international acrobatic competitions and festivals achieving outstanding success. It has received prestigious awards at the International Circus Festivals in Monte Carlo and Russia, the China National Acrobatic Competition, Paris' Cirque de Demain, the China National Youth Acrobatics Competition, and the International Acrobatics Art Festivals in Italy, Wuhan and Wuqiao.

The troupe has also contributed to the international performing market with appearances in more than 30 countries from Peru, Colombia and Venezuela to India, Japan, Korea, Spain and Sweden. Its productions include such crowd-pleasing acts as "Clownish Straw Hats," "Cycling Stunts," "Aerial Silk," and "Plates Spinning."

Between 1997 and 2007, the National Acrobats of China have averaged seven European tours each year, performing in more than 100 cities. In the summer of 2007, the 40 acrobats and staff toured the Caribbean countries for three months. In 2008, they thrilled crowds at Circus Conelli in Zurich, the Carre Theatre in Amsterdam, and in 36 performances in Indonesia. In addition, they have often been engaged by such varied international companies as Swiss Circus Knie and Princess Cruises. The Stuttgart Winter Circus has also regularly chosen the troupe for its outstanding performances.
