Navarasa Thetare Presents ENCOUNTER, 9/22-23
Navarasa Dance Theater is pleased to announce the Connecticut premiere of Encounter, presented for two nights only at Hartford Children's Theatre's Carriage House Theatre (360 Farmington Avenue) Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.
Conceived by Aparna Sindhoor and S.M. Raju, Encounter explores the various types of human encounters experienced in everyday life though a stunning evening of contemporary dance, poems, songs and stories. Encounter features choreography by Anil Natyaveda and direction by Aparna Sindhoor. "Encounter with the Military" is based on "Draupadi," the short story by India's most renown author Mahasweta Devi.
Encounter is performed by a multi-cultural cast of Navarasa Dance Theater artists from India, Boston and Singapore including creative team members Aparna Sindhoor, Anil Natyaveda along with Rajesh Raveendran, Raghu Narayanan, Smitha Radhakrishnan and Jill Cunningham.
Navarasa Dance Theater, a contemporary dance theater company, was founded in 1991 by dancer and choreographer Aparna Sindhoor in Mysore, India. The creative, which also includes S. M. Raju (Rajendran Sivasankaran) and Anil Natyaveda, has created important new works with a unique style and original content garnering praise from critics and audiences alike. The company has toured extensively in North America, Europe and India, and has been invited to perform at various prestigious venues including Franco Dragone's show in Germany, Lincoln Center, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, New Haven Festival of Arts and Ideas, World Social Forum, New World Theater and Teesri Duniya Theater in Montreal, Canada.
Inspired by Indian classical and folk dance forms, Navarasa Dance Theater offers a dynamic, radical and original blend of aerial dance, yoga, live singing and storytelling, world music and martial arts. NDT is known for dealing with human issues and a meaningful way that allows its audiences to both enjoy and be moved at the same time.
