Lisa Brescia, James Barbour, Gabrielle Stravelli and Natalie Belcon Set For LEMPICKA Reading, 11/9

By:

Yale Rep and New Dramatists will produce the third invited workshop of the musical LEMPICKA about the tumultuous life of art deco artist Tamara di Lempicka this Friday. Lisa Brescia (Wicked) plays the larger than life artist.

LEMPICKA has book and lyrics by New Dramatists resident Carson Kreitzer (The Love Song of J. Robert Oppenheimer) and music by 2012 Richard Rodgers Award Winner Matt Gould (Witness Uganda and Twilight in Manchego).

MarK Wing-Davey (Mad Forest) will direct the reading that will have musical direction by Ian Axness, assistant music direction by Greg Kenna and stage management by Catherine Costanzo.

The cast will include James Barbour (A Tale of Two Cities), Natalie Belcon (Avenue Q), Gabrielle Stravelli, Dashiell Eaves (A Beheading in Spokane), Michael Pemberton (The Farnsworth Invention), Izzy Hanson-Johnston (Billy Elliot), Nicolette Robinson (Perfect Couples), Rhyn McLemore (The Last Scene), Bjorn Thorstad, Philip Callen, Kevin Massey (Memphis), Michael Rose (Wicked), Charl Brown (Sister Act), Erin Bennett, and Mariand Torres (Wicked).

The show is s set around the erratic artist’s life in Paris between the wars. Using raw emotional language and a pounding pop score, Lempicka explores the life of a struggling artist hell bent on carving her undying mark on the worlds of art and fashion in the midst of social upheaval and sexual transformation.

This work is the first-ever Full Stage USA commission between Yale Repertory Theatre and New Dramatists. This third workshop is scheduled to take place on November 9th.
