GOODSPEED Announces Food Drive for the Holidays

On Monday, November 24, Goodspeed Musicals will hold their Annual Food Drive to benefit the East Haddam Food Bank. Goodspeed will be collecting donations in the hopes that they will have another record-breaking year for participation. Goodspeed Musicals is offering $10 off the regular ticket price to patrons who bring a non-perishable food item to the November 24, 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. performances of Big River. "As we enter the holiday season the Goodspeed family realizes there is a need right here in our community," explains Michael P. Price, "this year we encourage all of our visitors to participate in this wonderful opportunity to share with our neighbors in the spirit of giving."

The East Haddam Food Bank is in need of many non-perishable food items, especially "the basics" such as soups, pastas, canned fruits and vegetables, and cereals, as well as paper goods and personal toiletries.

Come along for the adventure of a lifetime! Join Huck Finn and runaway slave Jim on a musical trip down the Mississippi River in Mark Twain's classic tale. Along the way you'll meet a rascally pair of river grifters, a grieving heiress, and of course, Tom Sawyer. A slice of pure Americana - adventurous, humorous, perilous, and mythic. Big River, adapted from the novel "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain, draws from an ecclectic collection of musical styles including Cajun, gospel, blues, and country. The Broadway production garnered seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Directed by Rob Ruggiero, Big River has music and lyrics by Roger Miller and book by William Hauptman. Big River is produced for Goodspeed Musicals by Michael P. Price. Big River will run through November 30, 2008, Goodspeed Musicals' production of Big River is sponsored by Bank of America, Connecticut Light & Power / Yankee Gas, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

During Thanksgiving week, performances will take place on Monday, November 24, at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm; Friday, November 28, at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm; Saturday, November 29, at 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm; and Sunday, November 30, at 2:00 pm and 6:30 pm (Final Performance).
