Friedman, Chaffer, Harrison & More Present New Musicals for 2011 O'Neill Music Theater Conference; Selections Announced

Variety reports that The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center will be host to the development of four new musicals during its National Music Theater Conference, talking place from June 25 - July 15. Selections include works by Michael Friedman (composer for Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson), JorDan Harrison (writer of Maple and Vine), Daniel Zaitchik, Don Chaffer and more.  

The Conference has been the nurturing place of some of the most celebrated musical hits, including Avenue Q, Nine, and In The Heights.

The musicals for the 2011 Conference, selected from nealry 200 submissions via an open submission process are: Unknown Soldier (music by Michael Friedman, book by Daniel Goldstein and lyrics by Friedman and Goldstein), which tells the story of a lover and her granddaughter in search of a lost soldier; Son of a Gun (music by Don Chaffer of the band Waterdeep and book by Chris Cragin and Chaffer), which tells the story of a man in search of a life beyond that on the road with his family band; Suprema (music by Daniel Zaitchik ("Picnic at Hanging Rock") and lyrics by JorDan Harrison and Zaitchik and book by Harrison), which follows the life of the man who created Wonder Woman and the lie detector test; and lastly The Shadow Sparrow (book by Anton Dudley, lyrics by Charlie Sohne and composed by Keith Gordon), a love story that begins at the Pere-LaChaise Cemetery in Paris.
