David Finckel, Wu Han Perform At The Millard Auditorium

David Finckel, cello, and Wu Han, piano, will perform the third concert of The Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series on Thursday, February 11, at 7:30 PM in Millard Auditorium, on the University of Hartford campus. A special pre-concert dinner precedes the performance and begins at 6:00 PM in the University's 1877 Club. Patrons may purchase Series subscriptions or individual tickets to the performances and/or the pre-concert dinners. Admission to the concert is $30 with discounts available for seniors, students, and groups. David Finckel and Wu Han both have special, longstanding bonds to The Hartt School: David Finckel is cellist of the Emerson String Quartet, which was Hartt's Quartet in residence for 21 year, beginning in 1980. Wu Han holds a Master's degree in piano performance from Hartt, where she was a scholarship student of Raymond Hanson.

In addition to the concert, Finckel and Han will present a master class for advanced cellists from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM in Millard Auditorium at The Hartt School. All observers are welcome, and there is no charge.

Finckel and Han also will offer an open Q and A session concerning the current state of the music business, handling one's career, their own varied music entrepreneurial activities, and other topics of interest to the audience. This session will take place from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM in Millard Auditorium. All interested are welcome, and there is no charge.

In 1997, David Finckel and Wu Han launched ArtistLed, classical music's first musician-directed and Internet-based recording company, which has served as a model for numerous independent labels. All eleven ArtistLed recordings have met with critical acclaim and are available via the company's website at www.artistled.com. The duo's repertoire spans virtually the entire literature for cello and piano, with an equal emphasis on the classics and the contemporaries. Their commitment to new music has brought commissioned works by many of today's leading composers to audiences around the world. This season, ArtistLed releases its twelfth album, featuring contemporary works for cello and piano composed for the duo by Bruce Adolphe, Lera Auerbach, Pierre Jalbert, and George Tsontakis. David Finckel and Wu Han also have overseen the establishment and design of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's CMS Studio Recordings label, as well as the Society's recording partnership with Deutsche Grammophon, and Music@Menlo LIVE, which has been praised as a "the most ambitious recording project of any classical music festival in the world" (San Jose Mercury News).

David Finckel and Wu Han have served as Artistic Directors of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center since 2004. They also are the founders and Artistic Directors of Music@Menlo, a chamber music festival and institute in Silicon Valley that has garnered international acclaim since its inception in 2003. They have achieved universal renown for their passionate commitment to nurturing the careers of countless young artists through a wide array of education initiatives. For many years, the duo taught alongside the late Isaac Stern at Carnegie Hall and the Jerusalem Music Center. This Series has been made possible by a grant from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the HartFord Foundation for Public Giving. The grant is one of the first awarded by the Garmany Fund. Mr. Garmany, who lived in Avon and was an executive at Aetna, created the fund before his death in July 2008.
