Charles L. Mee Retells Suppliant Women With BIG LOVE At Kent McCray 5/7-10

By:

The Hartt School presents Big Love from Thursday, May 7, through Sunday, May 10, in the Kent McCray Theater at the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway in Hartford.

Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups. Please note that tickets will sell out quickly for this intimate black box venue. Please call the University Box Office at 860.768.4228 or 800.274.8587 or visit www.hartford.edu/hartt for more information.

In Big Love, Charles L. Mee spins a zany retelling of the oldest play in western drama, Aeschylus' Suppliant Women, which is the story of fifty brides who flee fifty grooms to escape forced marriage. Like the original, Mee addresses ageless themes of justice, freewill, marriage, and of course, love.

Local residents featured in the cast are Phil Smith, a third year Music Theatre major from Granby, CT, as Oed/Leo, and Sal Mitsou, a third year Actor Training major from Farmington, CT, as Piero.

The Hartt School is the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford that offers innovative degree programs in music, dance, and theatre. With more than 400 concerts, recitals, plays, master classes, dance performances, and musical theatre productions a year, performance is central to Hartt's curriculum.
