The Hartt School presents the Hartt Symphony Orchestra on Friday, October 2, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Christopher Zimmerman leads the orchestra, with works by Ravel, Tchaikovsky, and Hartt faculty member Stephen Gryc.

The Contemporary Players Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, October 7, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The Hartt Contemporary Players Ensemble opens its season with contemporary music featuring the trombone and friends. Curated by Hartt trombone teacher Ronald Borror, this concert promises to be fantastic.

The Hartt Wind Ensemble opens its 2009-2010 season with a chamber winds concert featuring music by Jacob, Dvorak, and Stravinsky on Friday, October 9 at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

The Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series presents the American Brass Quintet on Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This Series has been made possible by a grant from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the HartFord Foundation for Public Giving. A special pre-concert dinner precedes this performance and begins at 6:00 PM in the University's 1877 Club. Patrons may purchase Series subscriptions or individual tickets to the performances and/or the pre-concert dinners.

Come to the Roger Murtha Retirement Celebration with the American Brass Quintet and help celebrate the retirement of long-time Hartt School trumpet teacher Roger Murtha. Joining Hartt Wind Ensemble is the American Brass Quintet, featuring one of Roger's former students, Raymond Mase, and Hartt's current trumpet teacher Kevin Cobb, performing Ewazen's Shadowcatcher. Also on the program are world premier tribute fanfares written by Hartt composition faculty and our new Dean, Aaron Flagg as trumpet soloist in Evensong. The performance will be on Friday, October 30, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

Lions Gate Trio, The Hartt School's trio-in-residence, will perform on Friday, October 30, at 7:30 PM, in Berkman RecitAl Hall, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The trio will perform Ravel's Duo for Violin and Piano, Shostakovich's Trip No. 1, and Brahms' B Major Trio.

The Hartt School presents the Hartt Symphony Orchestra on Friday, November 6, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Christopher Zimmerman leads the orchestra, with works by Purcell, Berg, and Mozart.

The Contemporary Players Ensemble presents "ABC's of Postmodernism" on Tuesday, December 8, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This concert features three classic American postmodern composers. John Adams' minimalist wild and wonderful work "Grand Pianola Music" features two grand pianos. Also on the program are works by John Corigliano and William Bolcom, who will be The Hartt School's Composer-in-Residence.

The Hartt Symphony Orchestra will perform Wednesday, December 9, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The orchestra will perform works by Strauss, Beethoven, and Bolcom.

The Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series presents Bolcom and Morris on Thursday, December 10, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This Series has been made possible by a grant from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the HartFord Foundation for Public Giving. A special pre-concert dinner precedes this performance and begins at 6:00 PM in the University's 1877 Club. This year's installment of the Unclaimed Property Composer-in-Residence Series, sponsored by Susan Brake, promises to be one of the best residencies yet. Pulitzer Prize winning composer William Bolcom will be in residence with us for this very special week of music making. The Hartt Wind Ensemble will perform Bolcom's latest large-scale work, Symphony No. 1 for Wind Ensemble (2009). Also featured on this concert is a work by Hartt student composer Jess Turner and a powerful new work by the young emerging professional composer Roshanne Etezady. The performance will be on Friday, December 11, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

The Hartt Symphony Orchestra joins the Vocal Studies Division to present The Tender Land, this season's Main Stage Opera by Aaron Copland. Performances are on Thursday, February 4, Friday, February 5, and Saturday, February 6, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, February 7, at 3:00 PM. Performances will be in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

"Concerto Winner - Hartt has Talent" will feature the finest classical instrumental soloists in the Hartt School. This concert showcases four Paranov Competition winners from the 2009-2010 season, backed up by the Hartt Wind Ensemble and Hartt Symphony Orchestra. This concert will take place on Friday, February 5, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

The Richard P. Hartt's annual Collage Concert, which is free and open to the public, features two acts filled with continuous music, dance, and theatre. Hartt's gift to the community, Collage takes place on Friday, February 12, and Saturday 13, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

The Contemporary Players Ensemble presents "Three C's: Music Between the Lines in the 1940's" on Wednesday, March 10, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This concert features works by three of the greatest contemporary American composers: Aaron Copland, John Cage, and Elliot Carter. The centerpieces of this concert will be the 13-musician version of Appalachian Spring and the score to the 1940's John Cage ballet The Seasons. Also on the concert is the Elliott Carter Cello Sonata, which is considered among the most difficult in the repertoire.

The Hartt Wind Ensemble performs on Friday, March 12, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This concert features an incredible work by a new and powerful voice in composition, Steven Bryant. Written for wind ensemble, Ecstatic Waters also calls for a complete complement of electronics, including acoustic sounds that are processed in real time through a computer and electronic sounds generated by the computer.

The Hartt Symphony Orchestra performs on Friday, March 26, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The orchestra will perform works by Gershwin, Revueltas, Ginastera, Villa-Lobos, and Falla.

The Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series presents the St. Lawrence String Quartet on Thursday, April 8, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This Series has been made possible by a grant from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the HartFord Foundation for Public Giving. A special pre-concert dinner precedes this performance and begins at 6:00 PM in the University's 1877 Club. Patrons may purchase Series subscriptions or individual tickets to the performances and/or the pre-concert dinners.

The Contemporary Players Ensemble presents a concert which features student intermedia works, curated by University of Hartford Professors Ken Steen and Gene Gort, and created and performed by University of Hartford students. This concert will be on Wednesday, April 21, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

The Hartt Wind Ensemble performs on Friday, April 23, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. This Wind Ensemble concert features a world premiere performance by the celebrated composer Chen Yi. This composition is the first installment of works commissioned by the National Wind Ensemble Consortium Group, which was formed by Hartt Director of Bands, Glen Adsit. Also on the program will be Hartt composition teacher Joe Turrin's latest wind ensemble work, High Flight. Rounding out the program will be Aaron Copland's wind masterwork, Emblems.

The Hartt School Choruses (Edward Bolkovac, director) and Hartt Symphony Orchestra (Christopher Zimmerman, director), with the Hartford Chorale (Richard Coffey, director), will present Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, conducted by Christopher Zimmerman. This performance will be on Sunday, May 2, at 7:30 PM, at The cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford.
