40th Anniversary CAPA Summer Movie Series Lineup Announced, Runs 6/4-7/25

The CAPA Summer Movie Series, the longest-running classic film series in America, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2010 with an impressive assembly of classics, cult favorites, and much beloved films. The 2010 series, made possible through the generous support of PNC, will run June 4 - July 25 at the historic Ohio Theatre (39 E. State St.).
The very first CAPA Summer Movie Series in 1970 featured only four films-Carousel, Cleopatra, The Alamo, and Around the World in 80 Days. Forty years later, the 2010 CAPA Summer Movie Series will again feature Carousel on June 26 and 27 in commemoration of the beginning of a cherished summer entertainment staple in Columbus.Other 2010 highlights include 11 series premieres, four musicals, a Buster Keaton silent film double feature with live musical accompaniment, two Saturday mornings of classic cartoons, two "Late Nite Fridays," two "Chick Flick Fridays," and one "Fright Nite Friday" double feature.This year's silent film presentation will be a Buster Keaton double feature with live musical accompaniment by organist Clark Wilson on the Ohio Theatre's famed "Mighty Morton" organ. First up is the series premiere of Sherlock Jr. (1924), where film projectionist Keaton is a want-to-be detective, followed by the series premiere of Seven Chances (1925) where Keaton's grandfather imposes a marriage deadline in order for him to inherit $7 million. The Keaton silent film tribute will play Thursday and Friday, June 24 and 25.Clark Wilson, official organist for the CAPA Summer Movie Series, will once again provide pre-show and intermission entertainment for each screening at the keys of the Ohio Theatre's "Mighty Morton" organ 30 minutes prior to show time.
Now performing in his 19th CAPA Summer Movie Series, Clark has received both the Technician of the Year and Organist of the Year awards from the American Theatre Organ Society, the only person to have been awarded both titles.
Audio-Described Movies
Select films on CAPA's 2010 Summer Movie Series will be audio-described for visually impaired persons at no extra charge. Audio description allows patrons to hear a scene-by-scene narration of the on-screen action while they listen to the movie dialogue. Audio description is provided in association with Accessible Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing audio-description for cultural arts events. Audio-described film titles TBA.
