STRAVINSKY Fireworks
TAN DUN Water Concerto
BRITTEN Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes
TAN DUN Concerto for Orchestra
Tan Dun, Academy Award–winning composer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, makes his Cleveland Orchestra debut leading two of his works: the utterly unique Water Concerto — featuring Principal Percussionist Marc Damoulakis — harnesses the percussive possibilities of water to scintillating effect, while the expansive Concerto for Orchestra takes inspiration from the travels of Marco Polo. Completing this elementally charged program are Stravinsky’s career-making Fireworks and the evocative Four Sea Interludes from Britten’s Peter Grimes, seaside tableaux by turns tranquil and tumultuous.
This program’s Concert Preview lectures will be presented by Eric Charnofsky, Pianist & Composer.
