BETSY JOLAS Ces belles années ... [US Premiere, Cleveland Orchestra co-commission]
MAHLER Symphony No. 4
The Cleveland Orchestra
Daniel Harding, conductor
Lauren Snouffer, soprano
Mahler’s Fourth Symphony paints an uplifting picture of earthly afterlife, a child’s vision of heaven as a place filled with earthly delights and tuneful melodies. Here it is paired with a new work by composer Betsy Jolas, commissioned specifically as a companion piece to the Mahler symphony.
This program’s Concert Preview lectures will be presented by Michael Strasser, Professor of Musicology, Baldwin Wallace University
