WEBER Oberon Overture
ODED ZEHAVI Aurora [World Premiere; Cleveland Orchestra Commission]
BRAHMS Symphony No. 4
The Cleveland Orchestra
Fabio Luisi, conductor
Mary Kay Fink, piccolo
The Cleveland Orchestra has been renowned for its recordings and performances of the Brahms symphonies. Brahms's Fourth and last symphony has been called "one of the supreme creative acts of the Romantic era" and is fraught with tension between lyrical beauty, intense drama, and subdued melancholy. The piccolo takes an unusual solo turn when the Orchestra’s principal piccolo, Mary Kay Fink, performs a work commissioned for her from Israeli composer Oded Zehavi.
This program’s Concert Preview lectures will be presented by Francesca Brittan, Associate Professor of Music, Case Western Reserve University
