SIBELIUS The Oceanides SAARIAHO Oltra Mar THOMAS ADÈS America: A Prophecy IVES Orchestral Set No. 2 The Cleveland Orchestra Hailed as “one of the most accomplished and complete musicians of his generation” (The New York Times), composer-conductor Thomas Adès leads The Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus in a brilliantly eclectic program of 20th-century masterworks. On opposite ends, sea-inspired works by Sibelius and Saariaho contrast with Ives’s raucous American landscapes. Rounding out the program is a newly expanded version of Adès’s own America: A Prophecy, a haunting portrait of a civilization on the brink of collapse. This program’s Concert Preview lectures will be presented by James Wilding, Professor of Theory & Composition, University of Akron.
