Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet to Hold Children’s Auditions for their Production of NUTCRACKER 11/7

Children's auditions for Royal Winnipeg Ballet's production of Nutcracker, will take place Saturday November 7th at 10 a.m. in The Idea Center at PlayhouseSquare, located at 1375 Euclid Avenue. This production of Nutcracker is presented by National City, now a part of PNC.

Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Nutcracker will incorporate several local children into their production this holiday season. Eligible children include girls and boys who are currently enrolled in regular dance classes and those who have had a minimum of two years of training. All children must be eight years of age by November 1, 2009 and must be between 3'-8" and 4'-8" in height. Parts available include Party Girls, Party Boys, Mice and Angels (girls only.) Doors to the Idea Center open at 9:30 a.m. and auditions will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Girls are asked to wear pink tights, a solid colored leotard and their ballet slippers. Boys should wear a white t-shirt, black pants or tights and their ballet shoes. All children should arrive with their completed forms, which they will receive via email after pre-registering online, as well as a current photo (i.e. a school photo or another photo where the child is prominent in the shot.)

Any child auditioning for Nutcracker must be available for ALL of the rehearsals and performances. Children unable to commit to all rehearsal dates will not be eligible to audition. Nutcracker has become a beloved family tradition during the holiday season as it shepherds in the Christmas spirit with family and friends and conjures up memories of Christmas past and present. Set in 1913, young Clara dreams of a magical world that enchants and delights with dancing snowflakes, battling mice and a mischievous bear, it speaks to the child in everyone. Nutcracker is a celebration of culture, family, music and above all, dance.

Performed under the artistic direction of André Lewis, Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Nutcracker is co-choreographed by Galina Yordanova and Nina Menon. Original scenic design is by Brian Perchaluk. Original costume designs are by Paul Daigle. Lighting Design is by Michael J. Whitfield. Casting for this production will be announced at a later date.
