Teaching Artists: Director/Choreographer & Music Director - TADA! Youth Theater

TADA!'s Mission and History:



TADA! inspires young people from different backgrounds to be creative, learn and think differently through high quality musical theater productions and educational programs. TADA! is a unique Drama Desk award-winning

nonprofit youth theater that produces original musicals for children, teens, and family audiences. TADA! offers a free, year-round, pre-professional training & youth development program for the Resident Youth Ensemble (ages 8-18);

musical theater classes/camps for the public; as well as musical theater residencies in NYC schools and community centers. Through TADA!'s high-quality work, young people's self-confidence and creativity are enhanced. They also develop advanced skills in leadership, communication, responsibility, collaboration, and problem-solving – skills that help with growing up and are essential to their success both in school and in life.



Purpose of the Education Department:

To support, further, and fund the mission of TADA! Youth Theater with unique and relevant arts education programs that engage students from all racial, economic, and social backgrounds. Off-site programming includes in-school

residencies and after-school programs for Pre-K to 12th grade. On-site offers classes and camps to ages 3-14. Using the art form of musical theater (singing, dancing, acting, playwriting), TADA!'s education programs specialize

in co-creating original material for all ages and abilities and are team-taught by two professional Teaching Artists



(Director/Choreographer and Music Director).

Key Goals and Responsibilities of the Teaching Artist (TA):

-TADA!'s co-teaching model (Director/Choreographer and Music Director) allows TADA! TAs to support one another while providing students with the valuable opportunity to observe cooperative teaching. TADA! TAs should work collaboratively and be able to convey clear, concise ideas and concepts to students of all ages and abilities

-TAs should keep in mind that classes and camps are process as well as product based. The objective is for students to engage in the creative process and present the best work possible within their abilities

-TAs are jointly responsible for developing the syllabus for classes and utilizing songs from TADA!'s original productions and the Broadway cannon

-TAs are responsible for teaching students a broad range of musical theater skills and techniques

-TAs co-create a mini-musical with students using the four art forms of singing, dancing, acting, and playwriting using an editor's eye to make sure there is a clear, simple story being told that is both engaging and entertaining for an invited audience

-TAs will select and participate in all theater activities, warm-ups, and exercises

-In order to build a musical theater ensemble, TAs are to present a united front and equally share the responsibility of providing classroom management and support



Directors/Choreographers are responsible for:

-Selecting theater activities and physical warm-ups for each class

-The overall shape of the final performance (e.g., co-creating the script, choreography, blocking,

characterization, transitions, and projection)



Music Directors are responsible for:

-Selecting theater activities and vocal warm-ups for each class

-The overall shape of the final performance (e.g., Selecting songs that reflect the class topic, working on vocal sound, adapting and cutting song selections, underscoring to help convey plot elements and emotions, and emphasizing good enunciation, projection, and pitch)





Qualifications:

-Bachelors degree and/or professional training/experience in the performing arts

-Experience working with students ages 3-18 from diverse populations and cater to a wide range of their

abilities

-Committed and passionate about musical theater and arts education

-Proficiency in the following categories:

Interpersonal skills

Classroom management

Collaboration

Time management

-Ability to complete administrative classroom paperwork by required deadline

-Willing to travel to all five boroughs for TADA! programming

-Current proof of fingerprinting clearance through the NYC and NY State Department of Education

-Not required but after-school availability and early childhood experience a plus!
