Improvised Romantasy at iO Theater

Following a successful run in February, Improvised Romantasy is officially returning to the historic iO Theater (1501 N. Kingsbury St.) for an exclusive four-week June run. Performing Friday nights at 9:30 PM starting June 5th, the show brings the intoxicating drama, breathless slow-burn, and fated-mates magic of bestselling authors like Sarah J. Maas (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and Rebecca Yarros (Fourth Wing) to life—completely inspired entirely by audience suggestions.

To celebrate the summer run, Improvised Romantasy has revealed four distinct, high-concept weekly themes that promise to turn up the heat, the camp, and the emotional stakes:

• Week 1, Friday June 5th: Mermaids & Pirates – High-seas adventure meets siren songs. Expect forbidden aquatic allure, brooding captains, and sword-crossing rivals-to-lovers who are utterly out of their depth.

• Week 2, Friday June 12th: Shadow Daddies (Father’s Day Weekend) – A celebration of the fantasy genre's most beloved, morally gray, protective anti-heroes. Wings, daggers, and fiercely brooding glances take center stage just in time for Father's Day.

• Week 3, Friday June 19th: Western – A fantasy-infused frontier epic. Think saloon-door tension, fated mates on the dusty trail, and magical outlaws finding love under the desert stars.

• Week 4, Friday June 26th: Pride Edition – Closing out the run on Friday, June 26th, a glittering, high-energy celebration of pure, joyful queer love. The cast will dive headfirst into a completely queer romantic epic filled with magical court intrigue, dazzling fated mates, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after.
