The Right Brain Project Presents ODESSA by Michaela Heidemann Set in the catacombs beneath Odessa, Ukraine. A seemingly endless network of underground tunnels, it's the largest catacomb system in the world. The story centers around Andrew, an American journalist, and Dariya, a Ukrainian scammer. Andrew has been drugged and left for dead in the catacombs by Dariya and her cohorts, but Dariya returns for him. As they attempt to escape this underground labyrinth, they get more and more lost... and the catacombs appear to have a mind of their own. Will they learn the value of teamwork? Will they find love in the most unexpected of places? Will their flashlights run out of batteries, leaving them to die in a cold, infinite abyss, their bodies not to be found for two years? Join us to find out!

Why Odessa? Colin David (Director): This play has such a deep exploration of being lost. Showcasing the fear, hope, acceptance, boredom, determination, and dread that come with it. Pair these with hilarious characters and you have quite a journey. This play lets us be lost in darkness and challenges us to find our own way, and I just love that.

Michaela Heidemann (Playwright): It's a show that's invested in two energies best experienced live: comedy and fear. It's a show that's interested in the electricity in the air behind your neck when you're in the dark. And at the base of it, it's a show about two great characters who are all alone, fighting for their lives.

About the Right Brain Project Since 2001, The RBP has concentrated on intimate theatre that strives to bring the actor and the audience together in unique fashions. In Spring of 2017, the legacy of The Right Brain Project was passed on to a new generation of theater practitioners and became one of the only Chicago theatre companies to boast all-female leadership. The RBP has reevaluated its Mission and continues to move towards providing opportunities for underrepresented artists through performance, readings, and community outreach. We strive to tell stories that represent the diverse community here in Chicago, including but not limited to gender, race, physical ability and sexual orientation. Startlingly intimate, proudly raw, and innately political, The Right Brain Project is excited to stage further productions that reflect the passions of both our artists and audiences.
