The Inconvenience to Present Penn Jillette & Steven Banks' LOVE TAPES, Begin. 6/6

By:

The Inconvenience has announced that it will produce the Mid-West Premiere of Love Tapes by Penn Jillette and Steven Banks. Slated to open June 6th, 2014, and directed by Shade Murray, Love Tapes will co-star Inconvenience company members Chris Chmelik and Mary Williamson. Love Tapes will be produced in partnership with The Foxhole Chicago by special permit at their new space in Lincoln Square..

Press Opening, June 6th, 2014 at The Foxhole, 2444 W Montrose Chicago, Illinois 60618.

In announcing this production, Walter Briggs, Head of Theatre Programming for The Inconvenience would like to state that "...[Love Tapes] is a perfect fit for The Inconvenience. So many of the different projects and art forms we have produced over the years appear in this jam packed script, including; live, original, rock performances, interactive audience experiences, and as always, celebration. We are very excited to welcome director Shade Murray into our Inconvenience family, and thrilled to collaborate with the incredible musician and Chicago music and theater legend, Rick Sims for the first time. I'm very happy to begin an exciting new partnership with The Foxhole, and their intimate and lovely new space in Lincoln Square. Overall we are producing a beautiful, unique love story, that will touch even the most jaded of hearts. Banks and Jillette have given us risk taking, rich, fearless characters; not afraid to expose their deepest truths to find that one true love."

Director Shade Murray adds "Love Tapes is everything you'd want from a play conceived by Penn Jillette and Steven Banks. It's an anarchic, mischievous, raunchy and ultimately life-affirming take on the old-fashioned epistolary love story. And I consider The Inconvenience to be a collective of multi-disciplinary edgy humanists. It's going to be wild to see what happens when their crazy intersects Penn and Steven's crazy. I expect a lot of risk, a lot of skin, a lot of bravery, and a lot of life."

An unconventional love story set in Minneapolis and Los Angeles at the close of the 20th century. Love Tapes tells the story of Melinda, an x-ray technician completely obsessed with Kevin, the lead guitarist of the 80's hair metal super-group Umlaut.

Declaring her love through a home video recording, Melinda pours her soul into the camera, sending off the tape to Kevin in hopes of capturing his heart. The result is a surprising journey in discovering love where you least expect it; with champagne, magic tricks, hula-hoops, and straight up rock and roll along the way!
