According to the Chicago Tribune, True Blood star Nelsan Ellis is set to direct Katori Hall's HooDoo Love at Chicago's Athenaeum Theatre next month.

The show kicks off on September 22 as new company The Collective Theatre's first production. The Collective's founders include Ellis, Francois Battiste, Veronda Carey, Le'Mil Eiland, Metra Gilliard and Jasond Jones, all high school classmates in the '90s.

An award-winning film, TV and stage actor and playwright, Nelsan has appeared Off-Broadway in A Soldier's Play. He earned his BFA from Juilliard in 2004, where he wrote the play Ugly. Nelsan has also appeared on TV in The Inside, Veronica Mars and Without a Trace. His film credits include Lost, Warm Springs, Trespass, The Express, The Soloist, Talent, Secretariat and The Help.
