Promethean Theatre Ensemble has announced the first play of our ninth season, William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. One of Shakespeare's final plays, The Winter's Tale has been labeled many things: a romance, a "Problem Play," or as we like to call it, a Greek Tragedy with a happy ending. But at its core, this play is about things we witness every day as 21st Century Americans: pride, jealousy, penance and forgiveness. The heart of The Winter's Tale is Leontes' journey from blind rage to ultimate redemption. To bring that journey to life, director Brian Pastor and his crew will draw on images and ideas from diverse periods of history, utilizing elements both ancient and modern.

Preview performances are tonight, November 7, 8, 9 and 13 at 7:30 pm. Press Opening Night is Friday, November 14 at 7:30 pm. Performances continue through Saturday December 13 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm, with a special industry performance on Tuesday November 18 at 7:00 PM. There will be no performance on Thanksgiving Day. The Winter's Tale will perform in Studio One at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60657. Admission price is $22.00 for adults, and $12.00 for children/students/seniors. To purchase tickets please call the Athenaeum box office (773) 935-6875 or visit www.prometheantheatre.org.
