'Phantom' & 'A Wonderful Life' Shine into Porchlight

By:

Porchlight Music Theatre presents two musical theatre productions this season: Phantom, by Arthur Kopit with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston beginning September 14; and A Wonderful Life, based on Frank Capra's iconic movie It's a Wonderful Life, beginning November 17.

"Phantom is based on the Gaston Leroux 1910 novel, "The Phantom of the Opera."  The musical is described as the most successful production 'never to have played Broadway.'  The Phantom lives in the catacombs of the Paris Opera and falls in love with the voice and beauty of Christine. Drama ensues when a scheming diva, Carlotta, attempts to sabotage Christine's opera debut.  A passionate tale of murder, intrigue and love, Phantom is an exhilarating musical with a lush and compelling score that captures audiences," state press notes.

Preview performances begin September 14, opening Sunday September 16 at 2:30PM with performances through November 11 at Theatre Building Chicag, 1225 W. Belmont.

Show times are Fridays ($34) & Saturdays ($35) at 8PM; and Sundays ($35) at 2:30PM.

A Wonderful Life will preview November 17, open November 18 and run through December 30 at the Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 West Belmont.

"The story of George Bailey and his wonderful life in Bedford Falls remains a timeless fable of dreams, disillusionment and the power of love. An uplifting chronicle of the extraordinary lives of ordinary folk, A Wonderful Life is an exhilarating celebration of the innate goodness in us all," state press notes.

Show times are Fridays ($34) at 8PM; Saturdays ($35) at 3PM & 8PM; and Sundays ($35) at 2:30PM.
