New American Folk Theatre is opening its second season with a special staged reading of Kennedy's Children by Robert Patrick. Directed by JamAl Howard, the reading will perform on Friday November 22 and Sunday November 24, 2013 at 8pm in The Attic at Chief O'Neill's Pub and Restaurant,3471 North Elston Ave, Chicago, IL 60618. Kennedy's Children explores the inner thoughts and turmoil of five bar patrons on a stormy Valentine's Day in New York, 1974. Wielding an array of American cultures, the characters spill their troubled pasts and secrets with a series of monologues that slowly reveal some less than fortunate futures. This site-specific drama is populated by Wanda, the Kennedy purist, Carla, the next Marilyn Monroe, Sparger, the off off off off Broadway actor, Rona, the hippie who has run out of things to protest, and Mark, the addled Vietnam vet. Their stories combine to tell that of a generation lost in Camelot- circling an unreachable perfection of days gone by.

The playwright, Robert Patrick, is available for comment on the play and encourages press to reach out to him for any inquiries and elaborations. To reach Patrick, email him at rbrtptrck@aol.com.

The cast for Kennedy's Children features Emily Bates (Rona), Colin Fewell (Mark), company member Caitlin Jackson (Carla), Charlesanne Rabensburg (Wanda), and company member Anthony Whitaker (Sparger).

The staged reading is an effort to raise money for New American Folk Theatre's next full production, Dark of the Moon by HoWard Richardson and William Berney. In the spring New American Folk Theatre will dive into this haunting American classic about a witch boy in Appalachia who falls in love with a human girl. The company will highlight the folk music featured throughout the play with actor/musicians becoming the storytellers, creating a drama that is part folk concert and part ghost story.

Kennedy's Children performs on the weekend of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Friday, November 22 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, November 24 at 8:00 pm.

The reading will run approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes including one intermission.

Tickets are $15. Tickets are available at the door or online. To purchase tickets visit Brown Paper Tickets at brownpapertickets.com/event/405571 or visit newamericanfolktheatre.org for more information.
