Mykal Kilgore Releases New Single Ahead of Tour

GRAMMY nominated singer, songwriter, artist and activist Mykal Kilgore has released his new single and video "The Man In The Barbershop", a story told from a Black Gay man's perspective about his and many other's experiences at the barbershop where people gather and gossip about their community and the world.

"Black men are beautiful. When you're sitting in a barbershop you get to see every flavor of black man. This song is about seeing someone that is so beautiful that he makes you fantasize," Kilgore shared. "I wanted to write a fantasy and even though it isn't a fulfilled desire, I like that in a space like a barbershop I can fantasize in peace."

"The Man In The Barbershop" is the first single from Kilgore since "Let Me Go," the GRAMMY nominated debut single from his A Man Born Black album. There, at the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards, Kilgore made history as the first openly gay artist to receive a nomination in the "Best Traditional R&B Performance" category. "The Man In The Barbershop" was produced by Jamison Ross, Cory Irvin and John Michael Rouchell and Executive Produced by David S. Hargrett. The video was directed by Alexander Golden.

Beginning his career in Florida and then moving to Nashville, Kilgore's voice caught the attention of Tony and GRAMMY Award winner Billy Porter, who convinced Kilgore to move to New York and enter the Broadway world. To date, Kilgore's Broadway credits include Motown The Musical, Book Of Mormon, and Hair. Through it all, he has chosen roles that elevate positive representation of color including The Wiz Live on NBC, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert NBC, Songs For A New World, Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods, and Smokey Joe's Café.

As a Black queer man, Mykal Kilgore is breaking barriers and uses his platform to serve as a change for civil rights.
