Jekyll & Hyde -The Musical

Music by Frank Wildhorn

Art, in all its forms, is the force behind Bohemian Theatre Ensemble. Following sold-out houses for its last three shows (M. Butterfly, Songs for a New World, and Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde), BoHo tackles the musical Jekyll & Hyde, putting its unique stamp on a musical that has quite a following with an extraordinary cast and staff.

BoHo's incredible cast is led by Courtney Crouse (Jekyll/Hyde) who was last seen in bare at Bailiwick. His regional credits include Bobby Strong (Urinetown), Billy Crocker (Anything Goes) and Tom Sawyer (Big River) to name a few. The cast is continued with: Laura McClain (Emma) whose Chicago credits include Bailiwick Repertory's A Man of No Importance (Adele Rice), Blue Moon Studio Theatre's Weird Romance (Nola), Circle Theatre's Meet Me in St. Louis (Lucille) and Dear World (Nina), Pretty Blue Sky Theatre's An Ideal Husband (Mabel Chiltern), and Metropolis Performing Arts Centre's Steel Magnolias (Shelby/ Annelle u/s); John Leen (Utterson) who was seen in the world-premiere musical Main-Travelled Roads with American Folklore Theatre and the American premiere of Jerry Springer:The Opera with Bailiwick Repertory, along with Theatre 5.2.1 (The Sleeper), Sansculottes Theatre (Practical Anatomy), Metropolis Performing Arts Centre (Forever Plaid and War of the Worlds), and Light Opera Works (H.M.S. Pinafore and South Pacific). The cast is rounded out by Monica Szaflik (Emma), Kevin Bishop (Danvers/Spider), Danni Smith (Lady Beaconsfield/Nellie), Michael Updike (Bishop of Basingstoke/Newsboy), Michael Herschberg (Sir Proops/Street Person), Jennings Wynn (Lord Savage/Ret Rat Patron), Rodrigo Cruz (General Glossop/Red Rat Pateron), Tom McGunn (lord Claret/Bisset), John Taflan (Sir Treacle/Manservant Poole), Lisa Liaromatis (Lady Grisbee/Rat Rat Girl), Caitlainne Gurreri (Lady Belmont/Red Rat Girl), and Edward Fraim (Danvers US, Jekyll/Hyde US).

BoHo' staff contains our very own, Jeff-award winning director, Stephen M. Genovese, Jeff-award winning Choreographer, Brenda Didier, and Jeff-nominated Music Director, Nick Sula.

This classic tale set in London in 1885 comes to life through gorgeous love songs and powerful production numbers. A brilliant doctor, Dr. Henry Jekyll, is driven by compassion for the unfortunate and love for his mentally ill father, combined with his conflicting feelings for his devoted fiancee', Emma, and Lucy, a prostitute who has fallen in love with him because of his kindness to her. He fights to find a chemical solution to madness, fueled by his theory about the duality of good and evil that resides in man, Henry is shut out by the scientific community and is left with no alternative but to experiment on himself. When the experiment backfires Henry Jekyll inadvertently gives life to Edward Hyde, his evil alter ego, a murderous being who will let loose a reign of terror on the city of London and those who had ridiculed Jekyll's research.
