Laura Matthews and Mickey O'Sullivan to Star in The Comrades' DYING CITY

The Comrades are pleased to announce the cast and creative team for DYING CITY by Chri, the second show in their inaugural 2016 season, DYING CITY by Christopher Shinn.

This poignant and dynamic psychological drama will be directed by 2016 Jeff Award winner Elizabeth Lovelady and will play the Heartland Studio (7016 N Glenwood Ave, Chicago) from October 7 through 30, 2016. Press opening is Sunday, October 9 at 7:30pm.

DYING CITY will feature Laura Matthews in the role of Kelly and Mickey O'Sullivan in the roles of Peter and Craig.

One year after his suspicious death, a young soldier's wife and twin brother meet for the first time since the funeral. A psychological showdown erupts as the two fight to reconcile their memories with the ugly truth. DYING CITY had its world premiere in 2006 at London's Royal Court Theatre and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2008.

The creative team for DYING CITY includes Nate Dion (Stage Manager), Kate Leslie (Assistant Director), Elyse Balogh (Set Designer), Asha McAllister (Costume Designer), Emma Deane (Lighting Designer), Patrick John O'Brien (Sound Designer) and Becca Venable (Technical Director).

Christopher Shinn was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and lives in New York City. He has written many plays, including Four, Other People, The Coming World, What Didn't Happen, On The Mountain, Where Do We Live, Dying City, Now Or Later, and Picked. His plays have been produced at the Royal Court, Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Vineyard Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, South Coast Rep, and the Soho Theatre, among others. His adaptation of Hedda Gabler for Roundabout premiered on Broadway in 2009. His plays are published in a collection from TCG, in the UK by A&C Black, and in acting editions from Dramatists Play Service and Playscripts. Shinn has received an Obie in Playwriting, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 2008 and shortlisted for the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play in 2009. He has received grants from the NEA/TCG Residency Program and the Peter S. Reed Foundation, and he is recipient of the Robert S. Chesley Award. For more information, visit www.christophershinn.com.

Elizabeth Lovelady is a director, playwright and sometimes performer. Earlier this year she won the Jeff Award for Best Adaptation for D.O.A. at Strawdog Theatre Company, which she both wrote and directed. The production also received Jeff nominations for Costume Design, Lighting Design, and Violence Design. She is an Artistic Associate with Red Theater where she will direct Prince Max's Trewly Awful Exploration of the Desolat Interior in Spring 2017. She is also an Artistic Associate with 20% Theatre, where she directed Photograph 51 and Fanny's First Play. Other favorite directing credits include Lone Star/Laundry and Bourbon, Crimes of the Heart, The Dining Room (Oil Lamp); The War to End War: Los Alamos (The Island); Off the Spectrum, a devised piece created as part of Red Tape Theatre's Fresh Eyes project; and He Said Yes/He Said No, an international collaboration with the German company Bluespots Productions. She also wrote and performed the one-woman show A Simple Lesson in Baking with Marie Antoinette. She is the Development Coordinator for Theater Wit.

The Comrades were founded in early 2016. The have previously produced the Chicago premiere of Mary-Kate Olsen Is In Love at the Apollo Theatre. Company members include Derek Bertelsen, Alison Plott, Angela Horn, Mike Newquist, Cydney Moody and David Coupe.
