'Dave Davinci Saves The Universe' Plays at Chopin Theatre Starting 9/18

The creative team that captivated audiences in 2007 with the smash-hit The Sparrow, will re-imagine their 2005 hit, DAVE DAVINCI SAVES THE UNIVERSE, this fall for a limited engagement at the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W Division St.  Written by Chris Mathews, Jake Minton and Nathan Allen, directed by Nathan Allen, and presented by The House Theatre of Chicago, DAVE DAVINCI SAVES THE UNIVERSE will run September 18 - November 8, 2008.  Press opening is Sunday, September 21.  Tickets are $10-$29, and may be purchased by calling (773) 251-2195 or online at www.thehousetheatre.com.

The writers of The Sparrow have gone back in time to re-imagine the most daring story they have ever told.  DAVE DAVINCI SAVES THE UNIVERSE tells the story of the world’s most famous scientist working against the clock to invent the only thing that can save his daughter’s life and his marriage; a time machine.  The House Theatre of Chicago shares a completely fresh version of an original favorite with new characters, sharper dialogue, a new design, more heartfelt comedy, and tighter twists than ever before.  This giant leap forward in the life of an unpredictable, smart and amusing story of timeless love in the face of tragic loss is not to be missed!

DAVE DAVINCI SAVES THE UNIVERSE is written by Chris Mathews, Jake Minton and Nathan Allen, and directed by Nathan Allen.  The cast includes Carolyn Defrin (The Sparrow, The Valentine Trilogy), Paige Hoffman (The Sparrow, The Great and Terrible Wizard of Oz), Joshua Holden (The Nutcracker, Hope Springs Infernal), Stacy Stoltz (Hatfield & McCoy, The Hypocrites’ Our Town), Stephen Taylor (The Great and Terrible Wizard of Oz, The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan) and Dennis Watkins (The Magnificents, Death and Harry Houdini).

Original music is composed by Kevin O’Donnell, with new scenic design by Collette Pollard, new lighting design by Ben Wilhelm, new costume design by Debbie Baer, sound design by Michael Griggs, and props design by Michelle N. Warner.

DAVE DAVINCI SAVES THE UNIVERSE will be re-imagined for a limited engagement September 18 – November 8, 2008 at the Chopin Theatre (1543 W. Division St).  Performances are Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 7 p.m.  Please note: there will not be a performance at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 20.  Tickets are $10-$29, and may be purchased by calling (773) 251-2195 or online at www.thehousetheatre.com.

About The House Theatre of Chicago

Our story began 7 years ago with an unlikely show on Halloween night.  It was the birth of a company of artists and fans that sought a better theatre experience.  Following that critically acclaimed run of Death and Harry Houdini, The House burst onto the Chicago scene with the smash hit success of The Terrible Tragedy of Peter Pan, an original adaptation that ran for five months in 2002.

The ensuing years brought more than a dozen world premiere productions including The Great and Terrible Wizard of Oz, Hatfield & McCoy and the genre bending, three year, epic rock musical, The Valentine Trilogy.  In early 2007, the critical and popular success of The Sparrow took The House to both the Steppenwolf Merle Reskin Garage Theatre, and the Apollo Theater, and with it a whole new audience. In Year 8, The House is reborn in Wicker Park as we take up residency at the Chopin Theatre.  Join the revolution.
