Building on the success of its popular and critically acclaimed fall 2010 season, the Harris Theater for Music and Dance continues its seventh season this spring with a collection of adventurous and innovative performances by an array of the world's most renowned artists, musicians, and dance companies, many of whom are making their Harris Theater debuts. Chicago's finest music and dance organizations will also be featured with an exciting selection of events.

The Harris Theater spring 2011 season features the Harris debut of preeminent soprano Renée Fleming and triumphant return of virtuoso violinist Pinchas Zukerman who together will headline the musical event of the season-Fanfare For An Uncommon Woman: A Celebration Of Joan W. Harris On Her Birthday, an extraordinary benefit performance with all proceeds to support Harris Theater programs; the return of internationally acclaimed Mark Morris Dance Group, accompanied by musicians from the MMDG Music Ensemble, performing the Chicago premieres of three of their newest works The Muir, Petrichor, and Socrates; the Chicago debut of Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero, revered for her prodigious improvisational skills; a rare engagement by Pilobolus, celebrating 40 years of defying gravity; the Chicago premiere of English tenor Ian Bostridge performing dazzling renditions of 17th and 18th century chamber music with Canadian Chamber Orchestra Les Violons du Roy; and the Harris debut of star of CBS' The Good Wife and Tony winner Alan Cumming performing his hit one-man cabaret show I Bought a Blue Car Today.

Chicago's most acclaimed institutions will also be featured this spring, including performances by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Chicago Opera Theater, Chicago Jazz Ensemble, Music of the Baroque, and Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago.

"Our mission to present the world's finest artists is exemplified with the Harris Theater's spring 2011 season, filled with legendary performers and exciting programming," said Michael Tiknis, President and Managing Director of the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. "From the return of gifted choreographer Mark Morris and his phenomenal Mark Morris Dance Group performing three Chicago premieres, to the Harris debuts of captivating Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero and Tony award winner and television star Alan Cumming, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy."  He continued, "The Harris thrives on presenting exemplary artists performing innovative programming that cannot be found elsewhere in Chicago, perhaps illustrated best this spring with a benefit performance that is certain to be the musical event of the season. Preeminent soprano Renée Fleming and virtuoso violinist Pinchas Zukerman headline a world-class roster of legendary musicians in Fanfare for an Uncommon Woman: A Celebration of Joan W. Harris on Her Birthday, a spectacular benefit concert that will pay tribute to our benefactor Joan Harris. No other individual has made a greater impact on Chicago's cultural landscape and we recognize her many accomplishments with this amazing performance to benefit Harris Theater programs."

The Harris Theater is pleased to announce that UBS is serving as the 2010-2011 Season Sponsor. The 2010-2011 Season has been made possible with support from United Airlines, the Official Airline of the Harris Theater. The Harris Theater gratefully acknowledges the Irving Harris Foundation for its leadership support of the Presenting Fund, established in 2006 to bring to Chicago artists or ensembles of the highest caliber which would normally not be seen here in order to complement the works of the Theater's resident companies and build audiences. All performances are on The Elizabeth Morse Genius Stage.
