Bohemian Theatre EnsemblePresentsJekyll & Hyde -The MusicalMusic by Frank Wildhorn Book and Lyrics by Leslie Bricusse
Following sold-out houses for its last three shows (M. Butterfly, Songs for a New World, and Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde), BoHo tackles the musical Jekyll & Hyde, putting its unique stamp on a musical that has quite a following.
A true musical theatre phenomenon,
Jekyll & Hyde attracted legions of loyal fans even before the show began its smash-hit Broadway run. BoHo takes on this amazing musical with the same drive and energy that made
The Wild Party,
Side Show, and
The Life some of the most talked about smash hits in recent memory. In our most ambitious endeavor to date, BoHo will present a complete reconceptualization of this gothic tale presenting the power of Wildhorn's music and Bricusse's lyrics and book, while making the tale fresh and cohesive in a brand new, exciting theatrical experience.
This classic tale set in London in 1885 comes to life through gorgeous love songs and powerful production numbers. A brilliant doctor, Dr. Henry Jekyll, is driven by compassion for the unfortunate and love for his mentally ill father, combined with his conflicting feelings for his devoted fiancee', Emma, and Lucy, a prostitute who has fallen in love with him because of his kindness to her. Fighting to find a chemical solution to madness and fueled by his theory about the duality of good and evil that resides in man, Henry is shut out by the scientific community and is left with no alternative but to experiment on himself. When the experiment backfires Henry Jekyll inadvertently gives life to Edward Hyde, his evil alter ego, a murderous being who will let loose a reign of terror on the city of London and those who had ridiculed Jekyll's research.
