Barrel of Monkeys Sets FANCY SCHMANCY BENEFIT 2012: A BIG PROM for 4/21

Barrel of Monkeys (BOM) will present its annual "Fancy Schmancy Benefit 2012: A Big Prom" on Saturday, April 21 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Drucker Center, 1535 N. Dayton. This year's benefit will feature the 80's cover band The Breakfast Club, prom king and Queen Voting, photo op in front of a balloon arch and an "impress your date's parents" contest. Tickets are $50 a person or $75 for fancy tickets which include vouchers for Prom Court votes, song requests and SNL raffle ticket as well as "Popular Kid" treatment from the BOM Prom Squad. A VIP table for 10 includes fancy tickets and is $750. Casual cocktail or 80's prom attire welcome. Proceeds will benefit BOM programming with Chicago Public Schools. 

Barrel of Monkeys, a Chicago-based arts education theater ensemble, conducts creative writing workshops with students from underserved Chicago public schools and turns their stories and words into professionally-performed theater, presented both in-school and through a weekly review for the general public called "That's Weird, Grandma". BOM performs more than 300 student-written stories for the students in their schools and 150 stories on the stage of TWG each year.

The evening of the "Fancy Schmancy Benefit 2012: A Big Prom" will also feature BOM-style limo rides to different indoor destinations as well as the option to hang out with the bad kids under the bleachers. There will also be a screening of a BOM student's film about "That's Weird Grandma" called "Birth of a Story". The Big Prom evening will feature raffle prizes which include tickets to a live taping of Saturday Night Live, tickets to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Cubs tickets, and a trip to Washington D.C.
