Artemisia Announces Girl's Summer Camp

Artemisia launches its first-ever Girls Summer Camp, running July 9-14, 2018, at Oak Brook Park District Center. Empowering girls 12-18 through theatre, Artemisia Girls Summer Camp provides an exciting week-long curriculum in improvisation, theatre games, body movement, storytelling, ensemble work and performance. Artemisia Girls Summer Camp welcomes all students, whether or not they have theatre experience or training. Artemisia's core values are empowerment, inclusion and diversity and girls from all backgrounds, ethnicities and cultural influences are strongly encouraged to enroll.

Research shows teenage girls suffer from low self-esteem due to pressure to fit in, the need to please others and difficulty trusting their own "voice." Artemisia Summer Camp will give girls ages 12-18 a nurturing environment to boost their creativity and share their empowering stories. "Artemisia Girls Summer Camp is a perfect extension of our mission - to empower girls through theatre - and welcomes all to experience theatre as a way to gain confidence, self-awareness and share the magic of their creativity," says Julie Proudfoot, Artemisia's founder and Executive Artistic Director. Excellent classes culminating in a public performance will be taught by theatre artists Noha ElGanzouri, an actor who completed her theatre education degree in London, Steve Scott, who recently concluded a 37-year career with The Goodman Theatre, and Julie Proudfoot, an actor, director, and writer.

Artemisia Girls Summer Camp will be held July 9-14 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm at Oak Brook Park District Family Recreation Center, 1450 Forest Gate Road, Oak Brook, IL 60523, which features easy and safe pick-up and drop-off and parking. ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTISTS

NOHA ELGANZOURI is a Chicago actor who holds her MS in secondary education in Theatre and Speech Communications from Indiana University, Bloomington. She is a dedicated and passionate teaching artist whose distinguished work at Mishawaka High School included teaching theatre as well as directing and producing the school's plays and musicals. Noha has also taught at Riverside Brookfield High School. She completed a theatre education summer program through NYU in London, UK.

Steve Scott is a noted theater educator, producer and director. He recently concluded a 37-year career with The Goodman Theatre, where he created and oversaw a variety of educational programs for young people, seniors, and special populations as well as serving as the Goodman's Producer and artistic associate. He has taught on the faculties of the Latin School of Chicago, Loyola University of Chicago, Columbia College, Steppenwolf Theatre and the Theatre Conservatory at the College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University: he has also been a guest lecturer at Northwestern University, the Theatre School at DePaul, Oklahoma City University, and the University of Southern California, among many others. His directing career includes over 200 productions at various Chicago theaters, including six productions of A CHRISTMAS CAROL at the Goodman. His awards include the Award of Honor from the Illinois Theatre Association, a special merit award from the Illinois Association for Arts Education, and a special Jeff Award for his many contributions to Chicago Theater.

Julie Proudfoot is the founder and Executive Artistic Director of Artemisia, A Chicago Theatre. Julie has taught acting, directing, and writing for the stage and screen at numerous high schools, universities and theatres around the country and is honored to be part of the amazing Chicago Theatre community. Julie created the role of Lauren in Artemisia's world premiere of VISITING, by Ed Proudfoot, directed by Carrie Lee Patterson, and is thrilled to be nominated for a Broadway World Award for Best Ensemble, along with four other powerhouse female actors. Julie has 20 plus years experience developing and producing new work and is very excited to be directing the Midwest premiere of SWEET TEXAS RECKONING, by Traci Godfrey, which opens at The Frontier Theatre in Edgewater in June 2018.
