About Face Theatre Presents WONKA BALL 2012: YOUR PROM, 3/30

AFT's fundraising event will be held Friday March 30th at The Chicago Illuminating Company, 19 East 21st Street, Chicago, IL at 8:00 pm with a VIP reception at 7:00 pm. Tickets are currently available at www.aboutfacetheatre.com or 773-784-8565.

A press description of the event reads, "Relive prom on your own terms. Enjoy an open bar and decadent desserts, experience special performances from the About Face community (including local reality tv star DiDa Ritz), be tempted by silent and live auction items, take prom photos, and celebrate the crowning of a prom king and queen! Get out those dancing shoes, get in the limo, and celebrate prom your way!"

"The Wonka Ball has always been one of Chicago's most fun, dynamic, over-the-top fundraising events," comments About Face Executive Director Jason Held. "But this year, we are letting each guest relive their prom experience the way they always wanted," adds Held.

According to press notes, WONKA BALL's 600 guests will be treated like prom queens and kings at this year's party venue where the evening will include live and silent auctions, open bar, edibles from some of Chicago's restaurants including bistronomics, Petterinos, Garrett Popcorn, Hamburger Mary's, Polo Café & Catering, Dinkle's Bakery and more. WONKA BALL wouldn't be complete without plenty of music, dancing, entertainment and of course lots of surprises-including a "Wonka-style" reimagining of your favorite prom moments!

WONKA will also include the presentation of the Leppen Leadership Awards. Named for About Face Youth Theatre supporter Michael Leppen, the annual honor recognizes those whose efforts on behalf of About Face Theatre and the LGBTQA community, empower youth leaders to take action and encourage LGBTQA adults and youth to create intergenerational dialogue and understanding.

Proceeds from the WONKA BALL support About Face Theatre programming including its Youth Theatre, which creates new work by and about LGBTQ youth and their allies. The Youth Theatre has performed on major stages across the country, and, through its outreach tour, changes the lives of thousands of young people each year. AFT also boasts its annual, award-winning main stage season and the ambitious XYZ Festival of New Works.
