Machine Theatre Leads 'The Art of Play' Training Workshop, 10/15

By:

Machine Theatre's Director of Training, Barney Baggett (MFA Delle Arte' International) will lead the workshop "The Art of Play." This workshop empowers the actor with the skills necessary to abandon the self and engage what really matters: the play. Participants learn how the game is played, how winners often lose, and how losers often win.

Baggett brings expertise in physical theatre to this workshop as well as a playful and charismatic presence as a teacher. "The Art of Play" is Machine Theatre's most popular workshop, as it is a deceptively fun and action packed evening. Using the principles of game play, the workshop delivers essential lessons about getting out of your own way and into the world of the play.

"The Art of Play" will take place from 6-9pm on Thursday, October 15th at Story Slam!, located at 1401 Central Avenue. The workshop costs $10 and participants are encouraged to wear clothes they can move/sweat in.

Machine Theatre is a collective of Charlotte's premiere theatre artists. As a company they have run the gamut with their productions from staging Absurdist classics (The Bald Soprano) to Original Musicals (ThomThom). Actor training is a key part of Machine's Theatre's mission, with a focus on physical training and other "post-method" techniques. Eschewing traditional auditions, the company uses their actor training workshops to identify potential ensemble members.
