Lou Bellamy and Sarah Bellamy will be holding a lecture/discussion by Lou Bellamy and Sarah Bellamy on August Wilson and the staging of his plays.

When: February 14, 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Where: JCSU Arts Factory Black Box Theatre, Beatties Ford Road near the Johnson C. Smith Campus, 1545 W. Trade Street

Lou Bellamy Bio: "A personal friend of August Wilson’s, Bellamy is considered “the foremost living interpreter” of Wilson’s plays. He is founder and artistic director of Penumbra Theatre in Minneapolis. He served as associate professor in the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance at the University of Minnesota for 35 years. Recent directing: Radio Golf at Indiana Repertory and Cleveland Play House, Two Trains Running at Penumbra, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom staged in Phoenix, Tucson and Minneapolis, and I Wish You Love staged at Penumbra, The Kennedy Center and Hartford Stage. Recent awards: 2009 Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs Award for Public Leadership; the 2009 induction into The College of Fellows of the American Theatre; 2007 Obie for Best Direction; the 2007 National Black Theatre Festival Lloyd Richards Award for Directing; and the 2006 McKnight Distinguished Artist Award."

Sarah Bellamy Bio: "Sarah is the associate artistic director at Penumbra Theatre who specializes in educational outreach. She is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College where she studied creative writing and postcolonial theory. She holds an M.A. in the Humanities from The University of Chicago in Caribbean Studies where she specialized in colonial history from 1400-1800. She is currently working toward her doctorate in Comparative Studies and Discourse in Society at the University of Minnesota. She served as the dramaturge for several of August Wilson’s plays and is currently compiling first-hand accounts of Penumbra Company members on the ensemble technique formed in presenting Wilson’s plays."
