Steel Magnolias meets Caitlyn Jenner: What will Frances, Mary Todd and Janie, intelligent, sociable ladies, do when Sally, the urbane, charming new fourth in their bridge club, discloses she is transgendered? The revelation prods Frances to address painful memories of another episode in her life. Mary Todd, wrestling with personal moral issues, is challenged by her specially abled son J-Pat, who has befriended Sally on his own. Janie’s wisdom and wry wit, fuel her ability to put it all in perspective. The bridge club survives, minus one member. At the end, the three remaining members search for a fourth- again. And J-Pat provides a simple statement of a large lesson learned from all that has transpired.
