TAFE: Theatre Arts for Everyone is presenting the coming of age play, Gossamer, from April 24th to 26th under the direction of Andrea Unger.  Gossamer is based on the 2006 novel by the award winning author, Lois Lowry.  This was her first play adaptation and it premiered in 2008.

We are introduced to Littlest One, played by Fia DiMercurio, as the newest dream giver.  With child-like wonder and enthusiasm, she is guided by her mentors as she learns about who she is and her purpose.  The Littlest One’s first assignment is a young boy and his foster parent who are terrorized by nightmares.  The play contrasts whimsy and lightness of dreams with the heavy, darkness of trauma.

The cast includes the Humans played by Caryn Darrow (Woman), Kade Junk (Soldier), Collin Knaub (John), Finn Martin (Today the dog), and Lucas Wise (Dwane).  The Members of the Heap are the dream givers and were played by EmaLeigh Darrow, Fia DiMercurio, Kade Junk, Kevin Keith Allen, Abbey Koontz, Brittany Martin, Paige Paul’s, Josie Storey, Tim Storey, Bryn Walker, Michael White, and Lucas Wise.  The Nightmares were played by Tim Storey, EmaLeigh Darrow, and Brittany Martin.

Gossamer is a magic and fantasy with themes of empathy, resilience, and transformation.  The show tackles issues such as domestic violence and child abuse, so it may not be suitable for young children.  Check out the link below for more information or to order tickets.
