York Little Theatre kicks off its 80th Anniversary Season with an action-packed, family-friendly, musical spoof of the comic book genre. The Adventures of a Comic Book Artist runs tonight, September 21 – 30 and features singing superheroes and dancing villains.  BroadwayWorld has a preview of the show below.

It tells the story of Stanley Sappovitz, the janitor at Wonder Comics, who wants nothing more than to become a comic book artist and create heroes and villains for the comic books he loves. When staff artists unwittingly draw with magic pens, their characters magically come to life and Stanley must save the day by drawing his own superheroes – perhaps the greatest superhero of all time.

The cast of 50 features Cora Siburt and Ava Markel as narrators, Stephen Baker as Stanley Leonardo Sappovitz, Sarah Stark as Mrs. Wunderman, Ginny Peck as Viola, Alex Wilkinson as Dr. Shock Clock, Austin O'Connell as Star Guy, Zach DePorter as Triple Time, Allison Thomas as Blossom, and Vail Varone as Wombat Woman.

The show is directed by Rebecca Wolf and the production staff includes Ben Rosenzweig, Stage Manager and Sound Designer, Ray Olewiler, Set Designer, Janay Elliot, Costume Designer, Alex Weinrich, Lighting Designer, and Bradlee Gorrera, Choreographer.

Performances run tonight, September 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 7:00 p.m.; September 22, 23 and 30 at 3:00 p.m. All tickets are $10, reserved, and group rates are available. Tickets can be purchased at www.ylt.org or 854-5715, from 11 - 5 weekdays.
