LADIES' DAY to Make Capital Region Premiere at Harbinger Theatre in Troy

Harbinger Theater's fifth season will continue with Ladies' Day by Amanda Whittington. As Harbinger's 21st production and 20th Capital Region premiere, we have another new theater maker making her directorial debut with us, Rachel Stewart. Performances will be held at James Meader Little Theatre in Troy from June 12 through the 19th, with a FREE preview on June 11th.

"I'm excited that Ladies' Day is my directorial debut; it's a fun, full-hearted show about a group of girls that really just want to have a good day at the races. One of the joys of this piece is finding the fun in the everyday - what starts as a fun girls' trip might end up being the adventure of a lifetime,” Stewart said. “There's a little bit of all of us in our four leading ladies — Pearl, Jan, Shelley, and Linda. I hope that the show makes our audiences laugh, snort, clap, and (hopefully) think about making a dream of their own come true."

Friendship, love, escaping stereotypes, and finding happiness. Life is one long, hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley, and Linda. But their fortunes are set to change when they head to Ladies Day at the races. Factory hair nets make way for fascinators as the four friends hit the races for an unforgettable day out. Secrets are spilled with the champagne, and friendships are tested to the limit. Yet as the day unfolds and tempers fray, their accumulator bet keeps quietly winning. If their luck and their nerve hold, the ladies could hit the jackpot – and more.

“I admire writer Amanda Whittington's way of celebrating the highs and lows in the lives of ‘ordinary people.' There is something of the very best of British sitcoms in her writing – recognisable, well-drawn characters and humour that arises not from clunky set-ups, but the believable situations created by these people interacting in their featured environment,” Deborah Heath of St. Albans Times said. “I also admire how she tackles some serious themes using this framework rather than a sledgehammer approach. I left considering issues such the redistribution of wealth and how much self -identification defined by relationships with other people.”

In our cast we have, Robin Leary as “Pearl,” Kitt LaPaix as “Jan,” Ashley Schuliger as “Shelley,” Tara Huhn as “Linda” and Tobias Martin as “Joe/Fred/Jim/Patrick/Kevin/Barry.”

To go along with the theme of the show, we will have a Royal Ascot Reception on Saturday June 13th at 6:30 p.m., before the show. Shows will be held on Friday 6/12, Saturday 6/13, Wednesday 6/17, Thursday 6/18 and Friday, 6/19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 6/14 at 2:00 p.m. Talkback Fridays will be held on 6/12 and  6/19, after the show.
