Come to Fort Caspar Museum on Saturday, February 24th between 1:00 and 3:00 pm for "Fremont Family Funday." The topic of this month's hands-on workshop is "The American Bison."

Bison were the most important animals hunted by Native Americans living on the Plains. Not only did they provide nourishment, but virtually every part of their bodies were utilized for tools, clothing, shelter, and more. We will have our Bison Discovery Trunk open during the workshop, and participants may examine hides, fur, sinew, and other bison body parts. Then explore everyday items made from those parts.

Kids are invited to make their own paper versions of a "parfleche," which is a container made from bison hide, and a "Winter Count," a Native American calendar that marked the passage of a year with drawings of significant events.

This is a drop-in program between 1:00 and 3:00 pm that is free with museum admission. No reservations are required, and all ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Admission prices are $1.50 for adults, $1.00 for youth (ages 13-18 years), and FREE for children (12 years and younger) and for Museum members.
