MPulse Ann Arbor

MPulse Summer Performing Arts Institutes are residential pre-college programs run by the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance in Ann Arbor, designed for high school students considering college study in music, theatre or dance. Sixteen institutes are offered in summer 2026, including Musical Theatre Workshop, Theatre & Drama Academy, Theatre Design & Production Workshop, Dance, Vocal Arts, Composition, Jazz, Girls in Music and Technology and several instrument-specific institutes. Programs run one to four weeks with tuition, room and meals included; minors are housed in Bursley Hall on North Campus. Students study with U-M faculty and guest artists, take a campus tour and an SMTD admissions session, and each institute ends with a public final performance. Applications go through Acceptd with a $75 fee, and merit and need-informed scholarships are available.

Programs range from one to four weeks with room and board provided. Minors live in Bursley Hall on U-M North Campus. Priority application deadline is generally February 1; each institute has its own audition requirements submitted through Acceptd. Merit and need-informed scholarships are available.
