terraNOVA Collective Presents SUBTERRANEAN 1/7/2010

terraNOVA Collective celebrates the one year anniversary of SUBTERRANEAN, the company's monthly performance party, on January 7, 2010 at 10:00pm in the D-Lounge, a 75-seat cabaret-style venue below the Daryl Roth Theatre at 101 East 15th Street at Union Square. SUBTERRANEAN presents a variety of performers, including spoken word, music, burlesque, magic, storytelling, short play readings, and vaudeville acts. Admission is $10 plus one drink minimum.

The first year anniversary event will include performances by comedians, Micia Mosely (soloNOVA Arts Festival) and Kibibi Dillon (LAUNCH!), spoken word artist, Vanessa Hidary (Def Poetry Jam), and singer/songwriter, Becca Ayers (South Pacific, original revival cast).

"It's very exciting to be celebrating SUBTERRANEAN'S first anniversary with so many talented artists," said curator James Carter. "It's a big night with all women artists. Each is a powerhouse in her own right."

MICIA MOSELY Brooklyn-based comedian, actress and educator, Micia Mosely is a founding artist with Nursha Project (www.nurshaproject.com); a group committed to supporting artists and projects rooted in socio-political offerings. Since earning her Ph.D. in education from U.C. Berkeley, Micia has shared her comedic performance in cities all over the United States including, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Boston, Washington D.C. and Honolulu. In 2009, her one-woman show Where My Girls At? was nominated for a New York Innovative Theater Award for best solo performance. Currently, she is an educational and comedic-speaker with The Lecture Bureau (www.thelecturebureau.com).

KIBIBI DILLON has performed on many stages from California to New York. She began doing improvisation at a very young age and in 2005 she performed at the New York Comedy Club (NICK) with the Adults Playground Improv. Troupe. In 2004-2006 She also performed with Sketch Crew Saturday Night Re-written at Juvie Hall (NYC). Some of Kibibi's Favorite acting rolls include Greta in Sans-Culottes in the Promise Land by Kirsten Greenidge, First Witch in Macbeth by William Shakespeare, various women in The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensile and May Belle in Before It Hits Home by Sheryl West. Kibibi T. Dillon attendEd Howard University where she received her Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2003. She also attended The Actors Theater of Louisville's apprentice program in 2004 where she studied acting and theater. Lastly she was an apprentice at B Street Theater where she studied acting directly under Timothy Busfield (2000).

VANESSA HIDARY grew up on Manhattan's culturally diverse Upper West Side, graduating from LaGuardia High School of the Arts and Hunter College. Her experiences as a Sephardic Jew with close friends from different ethnic and religious backgrounds inspired her to write Culture Bandit, a solo show that chronicles Vanessa's coming of age during the golden age of Hip-Hop and her dedication to fostering understanding and friendship between all people. Culture Bandit, was originally produced by LAByrinth Theatre Company (Artistic directors; Phillip Seymour Hoffman and John Ortiz). It has since played as part of The Roar Theatre Festival at Nuyorican Poets Café, as part of The Downtown Urban Theater Festival, The Los Angeles Women's Theater Festival, PSNBC @ H.E.R.E. Arts Center, the 3rd Annual Hip Hop Theatre Festival in Washington, D.C, The Revolutions Theatre Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico, The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, and Makor Arts Center in the Hip-hop without Borders Festival. She has aired twice on the Peabody Award winning series "Russell Simmon's Presents Def Poetry Jam" on HBO, and is featured in the film The Tribe which has been selected for the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, and most recently for the upcoming 2006 Tribeca Film Festival in NYC. www.tribethefilm.com. She has been featured in The New York Post, Time Out New York, The Jewish Week, Spitkickers.com, The Forward, URB magazine, BUST Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, Time Out NY, The Albuquerque Journal, and Lilith Magazine. Vanessa is also a member of the troupe "Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad", which has been featured at various NYC venues including Joes Pub and Fez Café, and is currently touring the U.S. and Canada.

Becca Ayers Broadway: South Pacific (original revival cast); Les Miserables (original revival cast); Avenue Q. Film: Clear Blue Tuesday (a movie musical with characters, songs and scenes created by the cast). iTunes: Brainypants (with band; Baby Goes Bang) and Becca Ayers; Live at the Laurie Beechman with the Bryan Crook band. Her song "Taste" was used for the pilot "Temps" which was an official selection for the New York Television Festival in 2006. Baby Goes Bang will soon be releasing 2 new albums which can be previewed on their Facebook page. Becca is, also, completing an EP with former bandmate Bradley Whyte.
