Ian Herman to Play Zipper Factory July 30th

Ian Herman, an award-winning musical director and Broadway veteran, will make his solo debut in 'Alone at Last' on Wednesday, July 30, at 8p.m. at the Zipper Factory, 336 W. 37th St., in New York City. Herman, whose Broadway credits include 'Grease' and 'Swing!,' will perform a concert of his original pop, blues, jazz, classical and Latin pieces.

Herman began his career studying classical piano, and at age 13, was a guest soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. After attending the Manhattan School of Music, he worked with Jane Olivor, Donna McKechnie, Anita Morris, Judy Kaye, Karen Mason, Tom Andersen, Sharon McNight and Carole Demas in cabarets in New York City and across the country. In 1999, he received the Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Musical Director.

For the 1990s Broadway revival of 'Grease,' Herman was a pianist and vocal coach who worked with such guest stars as Chubby Checker, Sheena Easton, Al Jarreau, Darlene Love and Jon Secada. He wrote vocal and dance arrangements for 'Swing!' and conducted Jackie Mason's 'Laughing Room Only' show.
