Charles Cochran at Metropolitan Room Nov 14-Dec 5

By:

Singer-pianist Charles Cochran will present "A Song That Keeps Saying, Remember" at The Metropolitan Room (34 West 22nd Street) on November 14, 21, 28, and December 5 at 7:30 PM.  His show will feature songs, both obscure and well-known, including John Williams and the Bergmans' "Make Me Rainbows," Marcy Klauber's "I Get The Blues When It Rains," "My Old Flame" by Sam Coslow and Arthur Johnston, and Louis Jordon's "Saturday Night Fish Fry" among others.  Cochran's intros include tales of growing up in New York; working with and knowing singers such as Anita O'Day, Judy Garland and Nina Simone; living in Hollywood for many years; the ups and downs of life, and performing as a nightclub and recording artist for fifty years.

He will be joined at The Metropolitan Room by Steve Doyle on bass and David Silliman on drums.  There is a $20 cover and a 2 drink minimum.  Reservations call 212-206-0440.

After living in West Palm Beach for the last twenty years, Charlie was lured back to NYC where he received raves for his recent appearances at Danny's. He was honored with the 2006 "Return to Cabaret" Bistro Award for his shows at Danny's Skylight Room and currently appears regularly at the Royal Room of the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida.

Cochran, who has appeared in New York at Jillys, Tavern on the Green, The Apartment and The Playroom (with Nina Simone) among others, has recorded six popular albums including two for Fred Astaire's company Ava Records.  He has 4 CDs currently in release: "Haunted Heart" and "Charles Cochran Meets Bill Mays" on Audiophile; "The Saturn Sessions" on CD Baby, and his latest "Charles Cochran Live in New York" available through www.cdbaby.com/cd/charlescochran and at The Metropolitan Room after the show.

He began his performing career during the glory days of the 1950s, befriending and working with legendary entertainers like Judy Garland, Anita O'Day, Jeri Southern and Nina Simone.  Despite retiring to West Palm Beach in the 80s, Charlie was recently wooed back to performing, recreating the heyday of New York Cabaret when Blossom Dearie, Bobby Short and Charlie himself, interpreted the classics with humor, truth, sophistication and elegance.

The Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, is New York's most talked-about new intimate concert venue.  The cozy Flatiron District club picked up a 2007 Nightlife Award and a Backstage Bistro Award before celebrating its first anniversary in May.  For reservations call (212) 206-0440.  For more information visit www.metropolitanroom.com.
