Cast Party To Present Jeff Blumenkrantz On 9/8

Jim Caruso's Cast Party and TheaterMania.com announce "THE Jeff Blumenkrantz SONGBOOK" Monday, September 8, 2008 at 7:00p.m., as part of the long-running, Nightlife Award-winning concert series Broadway at Birdland.

Broadway stars will join acclaimed Tony-nominated composer Jeff Blumenkrantz to sing "THE Jeff Blumenkrantz SONGBOOK." BLUMENKRANTZ's work has been heard in the New York productions of Urban Cowboy, The Audience, and Audra McDonald's song cycle "The Seven Deadly Sins" at Carnegie Hall. His songs have been recorded and performed by such notable singers as Audra McDonald, Victoria Clark, Lauren Kennedy, Megan Mullally, Maria Friedman, and Sutton Foster.

BLUMENKRANTZ's career as a songwriter began at Northwestern University, where he was a four-year contributor to the celebrated Waa-Mu Show. While pursuing a career as an actor in New York, he joined The BMI Workshop and participated in the Dramatists Guild's Musical Theatre Development Program and Jonathan Larson Fellowship and is the 2001 recipient of the BMI Advanced Workshop Harrington Award. His one act musicals, "Woman with Pocketbook," written with Annie Kessler and Libby Saines, and "Precious Little Jewel," written with Libby Saines, have been performed at regional theatres and have both won the Ten Minute Musical Competition.

2005 marked the publication of The Jeff Blumenkrantz Songbook, a piano/vocal folio of twenty songs, and the first episode of The Jeff Blumenkrantz Songbook Podcast, a performance and interview show featuring Jeff's songs sung by some of musical theatre's great talents.

In 2008, Jeff produced The BMI Workshop Songbook Podcast, which featured twenty new songs from the members and alumni of the famed musical theatre writers' workshop. He is currently collaborating with lyricist/librettist Beth Blatt on a new musical entitled Hashi.

Created by acclaimed performer, writer, producer & presenter Jim Caruso, BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND is a weekly concert series on Sunday and Monday evenings, showcasing legendary Broadway performers and composers, as well as up-and-coming musical theater talents. Started as a companion piece to the hugely popular and hilarious weekly impromptu variety show Jim Caruso's Cast Party (which follows Mondays at9:30pm).BROADWAY AT BIRDLAND has recently hosted such diverse performers as Jason Robert Brown, Lucie Arnaz, Christine Ebersole with Billy Stritch, and Melissa Errico – as well as the benefit concert Chita Rivera LOVES BROADWAY CARES, which sold out two shows in record time.
