Hollywood.com reports that actress Zoe Saldana is in early talks to portray singer and Broadway star Eartha Kitt in an untitled biopic heading to the big screen. The project is reportedly in its early stages and no other details have been released. Saldana will soon take on another musical role when she portrays Nina Simone in an upcoming biopic of the singer's life.

Eartha Kitt passed away after a long battle against colon cancer on Christmas Day, 2008 in Weston, Connecticut at the age of 81. Her enduring international career spanned theatre, cabaret, television and the recording industry. She won the 2007 Emmy Award for her performance as the voice of Yzma in Disney's series The Emperor's New School; she had been nominated twice for a Grammy Award and three times for a Tony Award, one for the title role of Mrs. Patterson in 1955; Timbuktu! in 1978 and The Wild Party in 2000. In 2003, Kitt appeared as Liliane Le Fleur in the revival of Nine, The Musical.

Saldana was recently seen in the crime drama Out of the Furnace opposite Christian Bale. The actress' breakthrough role came in the 2000 film Center Stage and the 2002 film Crossroads. She later gained prominence for her roles as Anamaria in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Uhura in the 2009 film Star Trek, and a starring role as Neytiri in James Cameron's Avatar. She also had a lead role in the action film Colombiana, and is filming Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
